YOUNGSTOWN - The city's 24th homicide victim of the year was found about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday on the sidewalk in front of 142 Roslyn Drive, police said.
Police were responding to a call of shots fired in the 160 block of Roslyn Drive when a neighbor pointed out the body of Darnell Green Jr., 21, of Coronado Avenue. Paramedics said he was dead at the scene.
Detective Sgt. John Patton, lead investigator on the case, said Green was outside near a car when he was shot. Patton said investigators believe Green was shot at by someone in a passing car.
Police found three shell casings near Green's body. A fourth casing was found underneath the bumper of the car Green was standing at when it was moved to be towed.
Last year, the city recorded 23 homicides. It is also the second homicide within a week and the third for October.
Jessica Walker, 23, of Maplewood Court, was arrested in the Sunday stabbing death of 26-year-old Shawn Meadows at her home following an argument.

In 2011, Youngstown had 23 homicides; in 2010, Youngstown had 21 homicides; in 2009, Youngs-town had 24 homicides.
On Oct. 20, Mark Haskins, 57, of Norwood Avenue, died of wounds he received when he was shot several times at Kensington and Bissel avenues on the North Side Oct. 17. Haskins told police before he died that he was shot by someone in a passing vehicle.
Chief of Detectives Capt. Mark Milstead said despite some similarities, the shootings of Haskins and Green are not related.
