Daniel E. Myers 1926-2012

SEBRING - Daniel Edward Myers, 86, resident of Copeland Oaks in Sebring, passed away at 7:55 p.m Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Crandall Medical Center.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1926, and was the son of Earl and Eva Strom Myers.

Mr. Myers was a longtime resident of Champion. He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1944, and was a 1946 graduate of Harvard University with a degree in navigation engineering.

Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an ensign, officer of the deck underway, First Deck Division on the USS Lejeune AP 74 in the United States Navy, and served in the Pacific until 1947. He continued his naval career with the United States Naval Reserves, where he attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade before his discharge on Dec. 4, 1961.

Daniel was employed by the Packard Electric Division of General Motors as the toolroom supervisor for 43 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warren, where he actively served on every board, attended and taught Sunday school, and was a member of the church choir.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed family vacations at his cottage in Buckhorn, Ontario, Canada.

Survivors include his seven children, Daniel G. (Monika) Myers of Hilton Head, S.C.; Barbara A. Johnston of Albany, N.Y., Marjorie M. (Gerry) Inskeep of Fredericksburg, Va., Marilyn M. (Ed) Dunphy of Locust Grove, Va., Robert E. Myers of Westerville, Audrey M. Martin of North Benton and Randall R.(Faith) Myers of Mantua. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, Stefanie, Danny, Jessica, Sarah, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Kelly, Megan, Brian, Stacy, Sally, Jeffrey, Audra and Brandon; and two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Allison.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie Libertyn Myers, whom he married May 22, 1948, and had 52 wonderful years together; a brother, Richard E. Myers; and his parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home in Warren, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. A second celebration will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Bennett Chapel of Copeland Oaks Retirement Community in Sebring. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Williamsburg Lounge. Inurnment will take place at Champion Township Cemetery.
