YOUNGSTOWN - John "Fred" Vehre, 76, of Vienna, passed away after a long illness at 12:09 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at the Northside Medical Center in Youngstown.
John was born Aug. 29, 1936, in Mingo Junction, the son of the late John and Carolyn Hobson Vehre, and grew up in Liberty, where his parents owned and operated the Logan Corners gas station and restaurant.
On July 7, 1962, John was united into marriage with Pearl Jibotian Vehre, his loving wife of 50 years. They spent many happy years together, and enjoyed gardening, garage sales and making each other laugh.

John was a lifelong fan of NASCAR and enjoyed working on cars along with tinkering in the garage. He loved people and socializing and made friends with everyone he met.
His memory will be remembered and cherished by those he leaves behind, his wife, Pearl Vehre; daughters, Kim Hilty of Vienna and Kari Vehre of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Katie and John Hilty of Vienna; son-in-law, Mark Hilty; sisters, Janet Berlin and Joyce (Bing) Wolf; ''favorite brother-in-law,'' Nick (Edie) Jibotian; along with numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved pets, Pepper and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jackie Seng and Jean Woodrum.
Friends and family may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home in Warren, with a remembrance service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
