PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - Jean Middendorf Smith, 87, formerly of Warren, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012.
She was born July 11, 1925, in Boyers, Pa., the daughter of Leonard Aaron and Ruth Seaton Hovis.
Jean was a longtime member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and was a 35-year volunteer for the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her son, Bill Middendorf of Las Crucas, N.M.; her daughter, Ruth Middendorf Augenstein (Lynn); and four grandchildren, Matthew, Natalie, Kimberly and Derek Augenstein, all of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. She also leaves behind her only sister, Helen Louise Middendorf; her niece, Carole Middendorf Brooks; and a nephew, David Middendorf, all of New Castle, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Middendorf, whom she married on Dec. 14, 1951. Ralph was co-owner of The Hot Dog Shoppe in Warren.
Private graveside services will be held at a future date in Boyers, Pa.
Arrangements were handled by First Coast Funeral Home.
