GIRARD - Sarah Jane Syak, 95, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at her home.
She was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Girard, the daughter of Harry and Gladys Lewis Caines.
Sarah was a member of First Baptist Church in Girard, where she had taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Youngstown Country Club, Girard Literary and Junior Guild. Sarah loved gardening, especially her roses, and music.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally (Robert) Williams of Girard; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Syak; her grandchildren, Peter (Marete) Syak, Leslie (Thomas) Burgoyne and Elayne Knowlton; great-grandchildren, Jake Knowlton and Cadence Burgoyne; and a niece, Ilsa Leonhart of Park City, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Syak, whom she married Jan.4, 1934, and who passed away Sept. 3, 2011.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Interment will take place at Girard City Cemetery.
