WARREN - U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday morning arrested the man suspected of pulling the trigger in a homicide last month.
David Martin, 28, is accused of killing Jeremy Cole and wounding Melissa Putnam, both of Warren, just after noon Sept. 27 in a house at 2220 Oak Circle S.W.
Martin's last known address was on Belmont Street. He was arrested without incident about 8:30 a.m. in Tallmadge at the home of a friend on the 1500 block of Brittain Road, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Bill Boldin.
Martin had a handgun with him, Boldin said. That and other evidence was confiscated and turned over to Warren detectives, who questioned Martin. Marshals then took him to the Trumbull County Jail.
Martin is scheduled to be arraigned this morning on a felony murder charge via a video hookup.
''(Cole's mother) Wanda Cole and the rest of the family is grateful that David Martin was finally caught and that there was one survivor to help seek justice,'' the family said in a prepared statement Tuesday afternoon. ''Justice is all we ever wanted for Jeremy.
''We all are thankful that Melissa has helped us in this situation that we are in. ... Now Jeremy can rest in peace. We all love and miss him dearly,'' the statement reads.
Putnam reportedly told detectives that Martin had been in the house before but she didn't know him by name.
She was shot in the hand while trying to protect herself, according to reports. The bullet pierced her hand and ended up in her neck, police said. She has since been released from a local hospital.
Detectives, who filed the warrant for Martin's arrest more than a week ago, said money had been stolen from Putnam's purse.
Martin has served time in prison out of Cuyahoga County for robbery, including a six-year term in 2001 and a three-year term for attempted robbery in 2007, detectives said. Both crimes included firearm specifications since a gun was used in the crimes.
Cole's death was the fourth reported homicide in Warren this year and the first since July 15 when a teenage girl was gunned down on Hamilton Street S.W.
