WARREN - A city police officer was shot at just after midnight.

According to scanner traffic, an officer in his cruiser was shot at in the area of Fourth Street and Highland Avenue S.W.

The weapon used was a "long gun, semi-automatic," according to police.

An eyewitness told police they saw the suspected shooter run eastbound along a fence on Fourth wearing a "puffy, winter-type jacket."

Other officers quickly swarmed the area and set up a perimeter.

As a precaution, police at the scene were told to stay in their cruisers while they searched.

By 12:20 a.m. Ohio State Highway Patrol had troopers on the scene looking for the shooter.

More updates coming.
