Tribune Chronicle |

Officers arrested Ross Francis, 42, of 1624 Robbins Ave., Niles, in connection with a stolen car that had a 2-year-old boy in the back seat. He is charged with receiving stolen property and is in Trumbull County Jail.

Warren police credited off-duty Patrolman Benny Harrell with spotting the car and notifying on-duty officers.

The car was taken around 11 p.m. from 512 St. John St., in Niles with Michael Babuko Jr., in the back seat. Police issued an Amber Alert around midnight and began a car-by-car and door-to-door search.

Harrell spotted the car on Tod Avenue S.W. in Lordstown around 5:30 a.m.. The boy was unharmed and was reunited with his family.

Police say the theft was random. It occurred while the boy's father, intending to stop home briefly, left the vehicle idling while the boy slept. The car was stolen while the father was in the house.
