Fire safety event in Hubbard

HUBBARD RECOGNIZES FIRE SAFETY MONTH: Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department and Eagle Joint Fire District will hold an open house as part of Fire Safety Month from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fire Station 28. There will be a fire extinguisher demonstration. The Red Cross will be there to take information for home disaster kits. Children will take part in a coloring contest.

BLOCK WATCH MEETING?SET: Hubbard Block Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Hubbard Public Library, 436 W. Liberty St.

HOMES FOR KIDS HOSTS SESSION: Homes For Kids Inc. will host an information session from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the community room at Panera Bread, 3641 Elm Road, Warren, for anyone ages 21 or older who is interested in being a treatment foster caregiver. There are approximately 11,851 children in Ohio in need of a family. Classes for becoming a foster caregiver are scheduled to begin 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 17 at Homes For Kids Child and Family Solutions, 43 N. Main St., Niles. CHURCH HOLDS FESTIVAL: Girard First United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St., will hold an apple butter festival and craft show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event includes apple butter demonstration, face painting, crafts and balloon animals.

CONTEST PLANNED: The Community Family Outreach Complex, 2165 Highland Ave., Warren, will host the second annual king and queen pageant 4 p.m. Saturday at the complex. All children ages 12 and younger are welcome to participate at $10 per child.

SALE SET AT CHURCH: A Lil' Lambs Closet Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Cortland United Methodist Church, 155 N. High St.

COALITION TO SEE FRACKING MOVIE: Hydraulic fracturing will be the topic at the Mercer County Christian Coalition meeting at 7 p.m. today at Hogan's Heroes Sub Shop, 489 South Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa. Mary Styn of Energy Citizens will present the movie "Truthland," which documents a Pennsylvania farm woman's conversations with environmentalists, college teachers, scientists, industry experts and others.
