NILES - City schools will have to begin looking for a new chief now that its superintendent has announced his resignation.
Mark Robinson in a letter to the Board of Education stated he will be leaving the Niles district effective Oct. 12 to take a position with the Ohio Department of Education.
"Recently, I was offered an opportunity to work with the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) as a RttT Student Growth and Alignment Specialist," the email states. "The specialist's position covers Northeast Ohio and is one of six regional positions in the State. Niles City Schools is one of the districts in the NE region, so I'm confident that we will continue to work together in a new way."
It was not immediately clear who would be taking the helm until the district finds a replacement.
Robinson was hired as superintendent 15 months ago to replace Rocco Adduci.
Prior to coming to Niles, he was superintendent in Ashland.
