John F. Kennedy's Laurencia Lee easily defeated Autumn Kirila of Brookfield 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals of the Division II sectional tennis tournament Thursday at Boardman High School in a match that was delayed from Wednesday.
In other matches, Cardinal Mooney's Kacey Haggerty (the No. 1 seed) beat Emily Soles of Lakeview 6-1, 6-0; and Hallie Yerian (Cardinal Mooney) defeated Darya Doronia (West Branch) 6-2, 6-1. Gianna Reider of Mooney had already advanced on Wednesday.
Lee will play Reider and Haggerty will play Yerian Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at Boardman High School in the semifinals. All four players have already advanced to next week's district tournament at Canton.
In the doubles tournament, Dominique Cicchi and Jamie DiDomenico (Mooney) will play Anastasia Cardarelli and Missy Soldressen (Struthers) and Megan Guliano and Maria Stroup (Kennedy) meet Elise Eckman and Cara Palusak (Poland) in semifinal matches Saturday. All four teams will advance to districts.
