LORDSTOWN - Herbert J. Horner, 85, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday Oct. 2, 2012.
On Sept. 23, 1927, in Windham, Clayton and Ruby Bundy Horner welcomed the birth of their son, Herbert.
He was a lifetime area resident and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Together again
Herbert was employed as a welder for 20 years by Ohio Structural Steel Corp., 15 years by Niles Consolidated Steel Corp. and he retired in 1990 from Lordstown Parks Department. Herbert was also a 28-year member of the Lordstown Fire Department.
In his spare time, he enjoyed outdoor activities, fishing, boating and lawn work.
On Nov. 25, 1947, Herbert was united into marriage with Dorothy K. Knoch. From this union they had two sons, Edward and David, and two daughters, Catherine and Louise. After 58 years of marriage, she preceded him in death in 2004.
Cherished memories of Herbert will be carried on by his daughters, Catherine of Clarksville, Tenn., and Louise of Lordstown; a son, David (Rose) of Lordstown; grandchildren, Stephen (Brenda) Horner and Betsey (Bo) Perry, both of Clarksville, Tenn., Bradley (Beppie) Green and Brenda (Darrell) Browning both of Elko, Nev., David Horner of Palmyra, Tenn., and Stuart Horner of Lordstown; and seven great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his cat, JR, and his two rabbits, Bugs and Pete.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Dorothy; son, Edward J. Horner; brothers, Leroy and Donald Horner; and sister, Claudia Adams.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Borowski Memorial Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Herbert will be laid to rest next to his wife in Meadow Brook Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material tributes be made in Herbert's name to the Lordstown Fire Department Association c/o Lordstown Village, 1455 Salt Springs, Warren, OH 44481.
