WARREN - An elderly Washington Street N.E. couple were beaten in their home late Tuesday by a trio of masked attackers, police said.

Raymond Pierce, 80, and his wife, Jeanne Pierce, 70, both of 171 Washington St. N.E., were left bloodied about 11:30 p.m.

Jeanne Pierce told police she was in her living room when the three men burst in. One placed a gun to her forehead before they hit her several times with their guns while demanding, ''Where's the money?''

A neighbor who lives in the building, Mallory Jackson, said the men also grabbed him, threw him into his apartment and demanded money.

''This neighborhood is a mess,'' Jackson said. ''They need to clean this neighborhood up.''

Some of the people in the attached 169 Washington St. address were not cooperative, police said, but one of them did say he called 911 because three people were at his door holding guns but he did not know who they were.

When police arrived, they found Jeanne Pierce on the porch bleeding heavily from the face, at one point almost passing out.

Reports state she was confused and having trouble speaking and had a bad cut on her ear. She was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Raymond Pierce said he was lying in bed when the men walked into his room and hit him several times. He had a large cut on top of his head as well as several lumps on his arm and a possibly broken hand.

He also appeared confused, reports state. He was taken to St. Joseph Health Center.

The Pierces were staying with family members Wednesday.
