Dorothy M. Urey 1912-2012

HOWLAND - Dorothy Mae Urey, 100, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Oct. 1, 2012, at her home.

She was born Sept. 17, 1912, in Paluski, Pa., the daughter of J. Raymond and Nina Kerr Meek.

On March 6, 1935, Dorothy married Raymond Urey, with whom she spent 32 wonderful years before his passing in 1967.

She was a graduate of New Castle High School and worked for Hillside Hospital in the dietary department for several years before her retirement in 1974.

She enjoyed life following her retirement, often bowling, traveling and watching sports. She enjoyed the simple pleasures, like reading books, doing crossword puzzles and spending time in her garden. She loved to volunteer and helped Meals on Wheels for many years. She was a member of the Morning Light Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Howland Community Church.

Above all she loved her family and the time she shared with them.

She will be sadly missed by two grandsons, Craig R. Urey of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Glen A. Urey of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ainsley, Cara, Patrick and Shannon. She also leaves behind a niece, Bette Meek, and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Urey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond E. Urey; a son, Gene Urey; a brother, Arthur W. Meek; and a nephew, Ronald Meek.

Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lane Family Funeral Homes Roberts-Clark Chapel. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Dorothy's name to Grace Hospice, 7206 Market St. Suite B, Youngstown, OH 44512.
