CORTLAND - Vincent Richard "Dick" Mazer made his transition to his new life on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at his home in Cortland, following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
He was born on Dec. 11, 1932, in Ashtabula, to Rose Mary Jones Mazer and Chester Mazer, who preceded him in death.
Dick was raised in the Cleveland / Lakewood area until he entered the Air Force during the Korean War. He used the GI Bill to attend college at Kent State University, where he was a proud member of Theta Chi Fraternity and earned a BS in business administration.
After his graduation from college in 1959, he began working for Hamilton-Kent as a salesman. He continued working in the rubber gasket / concrete pipe industry until his retirement from Sheller Globe, located in Montpelier, Ind.
He married Sally Bloomfield in 1960 and had three children, Mark, Lori and Keith.
He was an active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Cortland. He enjoyed reading and playing golf with close friends and family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Sally of Cortland; two sons, Mark (Cyndy) of Floyds Knobs, Ind., and Keith of Port Angeles, Wash.; daughter, Lori Chaney of Stafford, Va..; eight grandchildren, Christa, Melissa and Kyleigh Mazer, Katlyn, Kimberlyn and Keegan Chaney, and Amber Hopkins and Raven Hopkins Mazer.
Additional survivors include brother, Chester (Jean) of Chardon and sister Rosemary (Robert) Bowers of South Euclid.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 4659 Niles Cortland Road N.E., Cortland, with a Mass honoring the life of Dick at 11 a.m.
