William I. Williams Sr. 1919-2012

GIRARD - William I. Williams Sr., 92, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Park Vista Retirement Center.

William was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Youngstown, the son of William and Effie Hamilton Williams, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1938 graduate of Scienceville High School.

He worked for Truscon Steel for 32 years in the engineering department, retiring at age 55 in 1973.

While working at Truscon Steel, Bill developed a hobby of weightlifting. In 1953, he was appointed the volunteer YMCA barbell instructor and coach.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Youngstown, which later merged with Disciples Christian Church. Bill was an elder and deacon of the church. He also taught Sunday school for many years. He also was a former Boy Scout troop leader.

His wife, the former Kathryn A. Stitle, whom he married Jan. 30, 1943, passed away Jan. 6, 2010.

He is survived by his children, Linda D. (Pat) Paris of Poland, William I. (Cindy) Williams Jr. of Vienna and Eric T. (Roseann) Williams of Liberty; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Kathleen Johnson of Youngstown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife.

There will be calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home. Services will be 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Dugan Cemetery in Fowler.
