MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Delphine Alicia Shakley-Herlinger, 81, made her final trip into the arms of her Lord unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012.
She was born March 2, 1931, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of Maurice and Elsie White and lived most of her life in Warren, graduating from Warren G. Harding High School in 1949.
She worked as a school secretary at Howland Junior High, and volunteered much of her time with the Red Cross and Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

She married Lawrence Shakley in September 1951, and after his passing in 1988, she met and married Robert Herlinger in 1991. She realized her dream and followed the sun to Myrtle Beach in 1991.
Delphine loved music, dancing, cooking and animals.
She was an Alpha Phi at Kent State University and was very involved in charities involving children and animals. She never met a child or animal she didn't want to help. She had her own sanctuary for ducks, swans and snapping turtles by the canal in her backyard.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Herlinger; a son, David (Daona) of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two daughters, Debbie (Bud) Henderson of Stow and Diane (Michael) Butler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a niece, Laura (Rick) Tarbert of Pataskala; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six cats; and a dog, Trudy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Maurice White; mother, Elsie White; a brother, Ronald White; a grandson, Brett Shakley.
A service for the celebration of her life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Myrtle Beach Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Warren, with a service to be announced.
