YOUNGSTOWN - The Mahoning County Dog Pound and Adoption Center is asking residents for help.

The kennel is full and the pound is desperate to find homes for dogs, many of whom are at immediate risk of being euthanized if they are not adopted, according to a release from the pound.

Friends of Fido has helped the pound to implement two new programs immediately to save as many canines as possible:

- "Wacky Wednesdays" will feature a free spay/neuter for any dog adopted to an indoor home. All adoptions are pending a veterinarian's reference check of the adopter. The pound is open until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

- "Black Beauties" focuses on a needier variety of dog. Several reports over the last year have asserted that black dogs and cats have a more difficult time getting adopted. As such, Friends of Fido will assist in providing a free spay/neuter for any black dog successfully adopted, pending vet check of the adopter.

It is a requirement of the pound that every dog adopted is spayed or neutered.

For more, details on the programs contact Friend of Fido via email at FOFLisa@aol.com or FOFTrish at aol.com.
