Special to the Tribune Chronicle / Kevin Adams Safety crews respond to the scene of a double fatal vehicle accident late Friday in Newton Township.
The release also states that Paul Wodianka, of Diamond, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with non-life threatening injuries.
His vehicle sustained heavy front end damage as well. It was not immediately known whether he was wearing a seatbelt.
Wodianka was driving north on South Canal Street at high rate of speed, according to the patrol, while the Daneses were travelling south on South Canal Street. Wodianka then drove left of center, striking Danes' vehicle head-on. After the crash, Wodianka's vehicle came to rest off of the west side of the roadway and Danes' vehicle came to rest off of the east side.
The patrol said excessive and unsafe speed contributed to this crash. Alcohol and drugs appear to have contributed as well, but the patrol is awaiting toxicology results to confirm if Wodianka was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
The Daneses are the 24th and 25th persons killed on Trumbull County roads this year, according to the patrol.
