Lakeview sets makeup
date for band night
CORTLAND - The 30th annual Lakeview High School Band Night, which was originally scheduled Aug. 27, will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Band Director Nathan Sensabaugh said bands scheduled to play are Niles, Warren Harding, Howland, Youngstown State University Marching Pride and Lakeview, which will include the first alumni band.
The event originally was canceled due to rain.
Girard High School will hold its band night at 7 Monday at the stadium.
Man claims he was
robbed outside station
WARREN - A city man who was filling his gas tank about 12:10 a.m. Thursday at Rocky's AM / PM Food Mart on West Market Street reported being robbed by a person he knows.
Theodore A. Clover, 30, of Swallow Street, told police that the suspect walked up to him and demanded money that was owed to him. Clover told police his assailant was wearing a Cleveland Browns jacket.
After a brief verbal argument, the suspect pulled a gun out, demanded the face plate to Clover's CD player and clothing from the vehicle.
The suspect returned to his car and drove away.
Bazetta gets grant
to hire firefighters
BAZETTA - The Federal Emergency Management Agency Grant Program has awarded the Bazetta Fire Department $223,022 to hire firefighters.
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown announced Thursday that the Bazetta Fire Department has been awarded resources for staffing by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's S.A.F.E.R. grant program.
Brown, D-Ohio, said the grant will help ensure that Bazetta has the skilled responders needed to keep the community safe.
The S.A.F.E.R. grant program supports the hiring of firefighters and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.
Niles high school site targeted by thieves
NILES - A manager at Conti Corp. reported that someone entered a construction storage shed on the Niles high school construction site, 616 Dragon Drive, some time between 3:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday morning and stole copper pipe fittings.
The burglar also removed wood molding in the doorway of the storage shed. No suspects had been identified as of late Thursday.
Taste of Home
Tuesday in Warren
WARREN - The annual Taste of Home Cooking School sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle is being held Tuesday.
The cooking school will be held at the Packard Music Hall, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and the show starting at 6:30 p.m.
The event will include cooking demonstrations and prize giveaways.

Project to provide
pumpkins to children
WARREN - The Jail Garden Project under the direction of Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere will give away pumpkins for children starting at 11 a.m. today at the Warren Family Mission, 361 Elm Road N.E..
Altiere will be among those who will give out pumpkins.
Michelle Beauchene, director of development of the mission, said more than 100 pumpkins will be given to local preschool children.
