Walter Stewart Lininger 1942-2012

WINDHAM - Walter Stewart "Wally" Lininger, 70, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Jan. 29, 1942, in Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland, Pa., the son of Harold B. and Inez Stewart Lininger.

He moved to Windham in August 1956. Wally was a 1960 graduate of Windham High School and served in the U.S. Navy from June 1960 to March 1964 with an honorable discharge. He retired from Copperweld Steel in 2001 after 37 years of service.

He has been a member of Windham United Methodist Church since 1956 and served on various committees. He was a member of the Windham Lions Club since 1970, where he served on various committees including being president in 1986 and secretary for 19 years.

He held offices in the Garrettsville F & AM #246 from 1975 to present and was a member of the Kent Civil War Society from 1993 to present, currently serving as president. Wally was on the Board of Public Affairs for the Village of Windham for eight years and a member of Windham Village Council for eight years. He was a member of the Windham American Legion Post #674, a life member of the History Channel Club, a member of Friends of Monocacy National Battlefield and a charter member of the Windham Historical Society. He has always been interested in history, and as a grandson of a civil war veteran, was an avid civil war buff.

Left to carry on his memory is his devoted wife, Judy Ann Brown Lininger of Windham, whom he married Sept. 30, 1967; children, Brenda Ann (Gregg) Isler of Windham and Walter Stewart Lininger II (Eileen Campbell) of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Caitlyn Ann and Jessica Marie Isler, and Audra Kay and Bryan Walter Lininger; a brother, James Lininger of New York; and sisters, Isabel of Hawaii, Janet Hout of Austintown, Pat Clark of Vineland, N.J., and Louise Lininger of Warren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today with Masonic services beginning at 5 p.m. at Windham United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Jim Jenson officiating. Burial will follow at Windham Township Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Wally's name to Robinson Memorial Hospital Visiting Nurse & Hospice, P.O. Box 1204, Ravenna, OH 44266.
