YSU offering master class
David Breitman, director of historical performance at Oberlin Conservatory, will present a master class at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music.
Breitman plays both piano and fortepiano and performs both solo and in ensembles. He currently is recording Beethoven's violin sonatas with Elizabeth Wallfisch and working on a book titled "Time-Travel for Pianists: How Today's Players Can Learn from Yesterday's Instruments."
He also will offer a demonstration of historical keyboard instruments as part of the weekly convocation at 11 a.m. Friday. Both events are free and open to the public and will take place in Bliss Recital Hall. For more information, call 330-941-3636.
Youngstown library hosts poet
Youngstown native James E. Carlisle will give a poetry reading at 6 p.m. today at the main branch of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, 305 Wick Ave.
Carlisle, who is a lawyer in Toledo, is the author of ''Mirrors of the Heart: Reflections of My Familiar,'' released by Pig Iron Press of Youngstown. His work examines private confrontation with self-growth, the journey to locate cultural identity and to grow spiritually and the harmonies of friendship and love.

Lecture series returns to Sutliff Museum
The first of three lectures in the Victorian Collections and Coffee Series will be from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Sutliff Museum, located on the second floor of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren.
Eileen Green from the Intensive Care Doll Hospital in Chesterland will speak, and attendees are encouraged to bring a doll from their collections for Green to evaluate.

MetroParks Farm celebrates fall
Mill Creek MetroParks will host Sunset at the Farm, an annual celebration of the upcoming fall season, from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Guests can ride a hay wagon pulled by draft horses, visit with farm animals, compete in old-fashioned games, get lost in a corn maze and explore the AgVenture Barn. Cider will be available for sampling, homemade apple butter for tasting and marshmallows for roasting over a fire while listening to folk singer John Mosey.

Ethnic celebration set for Burton
The Cleveland and Youngstown-Warren chapters of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society will celebrate its eighth Rusyn Day Vatra from noon to midnight Saturday at Shrine of Our Lady of Mariapoch, 17486 Mumford Road, Burton.
Food service starts at noon with kolbasi and sauerkraut, haluski with dumplings, stuffed cabbage, kolachi and other ethnic treats. Performers include the Living Traditions Folk Ensemble, Byzantine Singers of Lorain, Slavjane Folk Ensemble and folk musicians Dean, Tom & Co.
