EVENT TO INCLUDE PATIENTS RIGHTS: People 55 or older can attend a senior luncheon program ''Know Your Patients Rights" at 2:30 p.m. today at St. Joseph Health Center, 667 Eastland N.E., Warren. Speaker is Lucy Falatic, manager / patient liaison at St. Joseph Health Center.

LEARN ABOUT MEDICARE: Trumbull Memorial Hospital Senior Circle will hold a Lunch and Learn program at noon today about Medicare and related health insurance issues for people with Medicare. Kristen Taylor, coordinator for the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program, will be the guest speaker. The program will be held in the Cafe Conference Room on the ground floor of the hospital. Registration is required. OSTOMY GROUP TO MEET: The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group, sponsored by Humility of Mary Health Partners, is meeting 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the HM Home Care office, 979 Tibbetts Wick Road, Girard.

The group provides information and encouragement to individuals who have or will have ostomies. The meeting is free and open to ostomy patients, families and friends. Refreshments are provided and parking is free. For information, call 330-480-3440.

The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group meets once a month at alternating locations in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

MS GROUP MEETS: The MS Support Group will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at the Knights of Columbus Warren Council, 1947 E. Market St., Warren. MEDITATION SEMINAR OFFERED AT CENTER: Renee Pitts will be this month's guest speaker as part of the free monthly lecture series at Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center. FLU SHOTS AT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT: The City of Niles Health Department will administer flu shots at the Niles SCOPE Senior Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. The shots are by appointment only. Call the center at 330-544-3676 to make an appointment.

ELIZABETH SMART KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT ANNIVERSARY EVENT: ValleyCare Health System of Ohio will host the Healthy Woman first anniversary event with keynote speaker Elizabeth Smart on Sept. 19 at the Mahoning Country Club, Girard.

Smart, a kidnapping survivor and child protection advocate, will present "Overcoming Adversity," an inspirational message about life after a traumatic experience. In June 2002, at age 14, Smart was abducted from her home in Salt Lake City. Her kidnapping was a national news story until her ordeal ended nine months later.

The event starts with a free health and vendor expo from 4 to 6 p.m., open to the public. Health information and health screenings such as blood pressure, cholesterol and bone density testing will be available, along with numerous displays featuring a vast variety of products and services.

HEALTH STORE OFFERS CLASSES: The Vitamin Shoppe, 5704 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles, is hosting several classes on health topics that are free to the public.

The classes will be on Sept 11, 18, and 25.

"What Not To Eat" is Sept. 11 - Chemicals that are widely used in commercial foods, why they may be harmful, and how to avoid them.

"What Not To Wear" is Sept. 18 - Toxic chemicals found in some personal care products, such as lotion, shampoo and deodorant, why they may be harmful, and how to make better choices. Bring a personal care product of to be evaluated using muscle testing.

"All About Supplements" is Sept. 25 - How to use supplements, making better choices when choosing supplements, how to navigate through the wide range of supplements and more.

NAMI RESUMES REGULAR SCHEDULE: NAMI MV (National Alliance on Mental Illness) regular schedule for all support group meetings have resumed at the same locations. Evening support groups are held from 7 to 9 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday.

Daytime support groups resume from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month.

WELL-CHILD IMMUNIZATION CLINIC TO BE HELD: A Well-Child Immunization Clinic will be held on Wednesday at the Girard Health Department, 100 W. Main St., Girard. There is a $10 administrative fee, and Dr. James J. Enyeart, medical director, conducts the examinations. Parents are reminded to bring a copy of the child's immunization record. A parent or guardian must accompany children younger than 18. Parents must preregister children prior to the clinic. IMMUNIZATION CLINIC OFFERED: The Niles City Health Department will hold an immunization clinic from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Sept. 19. No appointment necessary. Child immunization records are required and Medicaid cards are accepted. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

PROGRAM OFFERED FOR DEALING WITH ISSUES: An eight-step Christian program based on the Beatitudes is open to anyone dealing with a life-controlling habit or issue. It meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays at the Bloomfield Recovery Center, 10113 Creaser Ashtabula Road, Bloomfield. For more details, call 330-599-2402.
