NILES - Joseph William Scherich, 82, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at St. Joseph Health Center, Warren, of natural causes.
He was born Aug, 12, 1930, the son of George Hoyt and Edna Ruth Sprowls Scherich.
Mr. Scherich was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954.
He retired in 1988, after 31 years, as leadman for Kroger Bakery.
After retirement, he enjoyed reading, bingo and visiting with his friends every morning at his favorite restaurant.
On June 29, 1956, he married Pauline Scott, who is deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald (Valerie) Scherich of Niles and Richard (Monica) Scherich of Warren; two daughters, Tammy and Joetta Scherich, both of Waynesburg; four sisters, Mary Reed of West Alexander, Ruth (Joe) Horvat of Wheeling, W.Va., Martha McAdoo of Washington and Virginia Milliken of West Alexander; a brother, Clyde Scherich of West Finley, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; a son, William Scherich; a daughter, Deborah Scherich; and a brother, Wayne Scherich.
Funeral services were held in Pennsylvania.
