MASSILLON - Donald J. Isenberg Sr., 69, 3288 Persia Circle, formerly of Niles, passed away at 5:23 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at his residence.
Don was born Oct. 22, 1942, in Brushvalley, Pa., the son of Walter George and Leafie Lockard Isenberg.
A 1960 graduate of United High School, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Vietnam War era from 1960 until 1964, and during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and escorted a Soviet ship back from Cuba following President John F. Kennedy's demand. He was an avid motorcycle rider, and enjoyed hunting, boating, and both water and downhill skiing.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, the former Alma Rosenkranz Luther. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, David, Tom and Pete, and a sister Beaulah Patterson.
Don is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Whitmore, whom he married June 25, 2011; three sons, Donald J. (Donna) Jr. of Niles, Jeffery A. of Champion and Daniel N. of Las Vegas; a stepson, Ronald Whitmore of Canal Fulton; two daughters, Tina Fowler of Southington and Sophia S. Gatewood of Howland; a stepdaughter, Michelle Margazano of Massillon; five brothers, Paul (Cindy) of Indiana, Pa., Dale (Kathy) of Limestone, N.Y., William "Joe" (Sandy) of Bristolville, Collins "Timothy" (Mary) of Hubbard and Jeremiah "Jerry" (Rena) of Colorado and Texas; two sisters, Sarah (Jim) Stear of Mecca and Mary (Beryl) Shoop of Shelocta, Pa.; his former wife, Donna Carney Isenberg of Howland, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Tim Cain officiating.
Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Park, where Donald will be honored by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard for his service to our country.
