Ralph S. Yeakel 1919-2012

WARREN - Ralph Simon Yeakel, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., a son of the late Simon Yeakel and the late Eva Mae Briggs Yeakel.

Ralph was very proud of his service to our country. He served in World War II with the United States Army's Ninth Division, 47th Infantry, and saw action in North Africa, Sicily, France and Germany. He received the Bronze Star and a Presidential Unit Citation.

He worked at Packard Electric for 36 years. And at the time of his retirement, he was a work leader in Tool Crib Plant 3.

Ralph was known for his caring heart, and used his compassion to volunteer at St. Joseph Health Center. He was also a foster parent for many years.

He enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his family, and going down to Myrtle Beach.

He is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Betty B. Flynn Yeakel, whom he married Sept. 15, 1945; his children, Barbara E. (Robert) Booth of Warren and Richard A. (Deborah) Yeakel, both of Warren; son-in-law, Ralph Moran of Southington; daughter-in-law, Karen Yeakel of Emery, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna J. Moran; a son, Charles W. Yeakel; and four sisters and a brother.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Glenn Hamilton will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be observed at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512, in his memory.
