Fri. 11:20am: School separating showers after PSU scandal

BENTLEYVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A Pittsburgh-area school district is spending $9,000 to build separate showers for adult coaches and referees in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal at Penn State.

Officials with the Bentworth School District about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh say the decision is a direct result of the scandal, in which the former defensive coordinator was convicted of molesting boys, including acts in a campus shower room.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association already requires schools to use a staggered shower schedule to keep adults and students from showering together.

Mark Byers, the association's chief operating officer, tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that Bentworth should be applauded for going one step further.
