NILES - Daniel D. "Moose" Villio Sr., 83, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at his residence of natural causes.

He was born June 18, 1929, in Niles, the son of James and Raffaela Bottigheri Villio.

Moose, as he was known to his friends, attended Niles McKinley High School, worked as a laborer for 20 years at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube mill, retiring in 1979, was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church of Niles and was a volunteer worker at the church's annual festival.

Together again

He enjoyed cooking, playing cards, trips to Mountaineer Park, visiting wineries, and family activities like summer vacations and playing cornhole and bocce. He liked to dance and listen to Italian and polka music.

Moose was a generous and kind person who gave as much as he could to his loved ones - and he will be missed by everyone who knew him. The family says we know he and his "Tilly" are reunited again and will be taking a trip to the track very soon.

He is survived by a daughter, Jamie Villio Taneri of Champion; a son, Daniel D. Villio Jr. of Austintown; four grandchildren, Jennifer Taneri and Tony Taneri of Champion, Daniel D. Villio III of Niles and Raffaela McCarty of Burghill; three great-grandchildren, Destiny Marie, Noah and Moses; and two sisters, Ruth Leedy of Niles and Rebecca Shaffer of Girard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mafalda "Folly" Villio, whom he married Nov. 4, 1950, and who died April 4, 2010; a brother, Lawrence "Cag" Villio; and three sisters, Grace Shelley, Ann Williams and Mary Brown.

A service of Christian burial will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Holloway-Williams Funeral Home, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, with the Rev. Michael Balash of St. William Church officiating. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Private interment will be in Niles City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of their choice in Daniel's name.

Condolences can be emailed to hollowaywilliamsfh@sbcglobal.net.
