WARREN - A teenage girl was shot in the mouth late Saturday outside a Linda Drive N.W. home where she said she was at a sleepover party.
According to reports, Danna Richardson, 17, of Swallow Street S.W., was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital and then to Akron Children's Hospital. Detectives said Monday, the girl was recovering after being released from the Akron hospital.
Richardson told police she was sitting on the front porch with two friends when she saw a man standing in a backyard nearby.
''She saw a muzzle flash from a gun. She said that she felt her mouth get hot, which is when she believed she was shot,'' a police report stated. Police interviewed her about 12:30 a.m. Sunday after the shooting shortly before midnight.
Police said they had been called to the 2900-block of Linda earlier for a report of several juveniles fighting. Officers said when they arrived, there was a group of juveniles but no one was fighting.
The mother of the Linda Drive girl hosting the sleepover said she heard gunshots and her daughter said Richardson was in the street. The woman said Richardson said her mouth was bleeding because she fell and hit her lip on the pavement. She then took Richardson home.
The girl told police she saw a woman pull into a different neighboring driveway and fire several gunshots. Reports said police believe the woman in the car fired the shot that struck Richardson. Two shell casings were found in the area.
