William E. Cook 1931-2012

COLUMBIANA - William E. Cook, 80, passed away Thursday evening, Aug. 23, 2012, following a brief illness.

William was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Sarah Seaton Cook, and was a lifelong area resident.

A 1951 graduate of Howland High School, William also attended the University of Southern California in Berkley and Youngstown State University.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army to fight in the Korean conflict, in which he served from Jan. 4, 1952 to Dec. 12, 1953. William was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal.

William worked in quality control at Packard Electric GM in Warren for 34 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Columbiana, American Legion Post 290 in Columbiana, the Mahoning Historical Society and the Columbiana-Fairfield Historical Society.

In his spare time, he loved oil painting, traveling and sports.

William leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife, Joann Forney Cook, whom he married June 7, 1958; his wonderful nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Ann and Grace Margaret; and his brother, Joseph Charles.

Private graveside services were held Sunday at Midway Mennonite Cemetery in Columbiana with Pastor Sean Myers officiating.

The family has entrusted the care of the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with the arrangements.

As per William's wishes, in lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, the family suggests you do a random act of kindness for a stranger.
