Sun. 4:15pm: Ohio service groups given grant to help homeless

August 26, 2012
Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

COLUMBUS (AP) - Two youth service organizations in Ohio will share nearly $430,000 in grant funding from the state to help young homeless people.

The Next Step program near Cleveland and the Lighthouse Youth Services group in Cincinnati will use the money to help homeless people between the ages of 18 and 24.

Next Step will use the money to provide for two victim advocates and other necessities over the next two years. Lighthouse Youth Services will use their funding for a new facility that includes a 28-bed shelter for homeless youth.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says the grant money will particularly help former foster children who have "aged-out" of the system. He says a lack of services for this group may increase their chances of becoming homeless or crime victims.
