LORDSTOWN - United Auto Workers Local 1112 has scheduled a press conference for Thursday in which union officials are expected to discuss news about production at the Lordstown General Motors plant.
"There is some news coming out, and it's big news," said Local 1112 President Glenn Johnson.
Johnson declined to further discuss details of the announcement, saying it was only fair that union members receive the information before he released it to the media. The announcement to plant employees was expected to come today, he said.
The Detroit News reported Wednesday that GM is expected to announce it will produce an "all-new" Chevrolet Cruze at the Lordstown plant.
The newspaper reported the automaker will retain jobs at the plant and investment will be less than the $350 million GM pledged in 2008 for the current Cruze.
Plant spokesman Tom Mock said only that there is no announcement planned for the plant Thursday.
Some local legislators confirmed they had been invited to the plant for an announcement originally scheduled for Thursday, but reports indicated that announcement was canceled.
