Robert J. Heinlein 1920-2012

BRADENTON, Fla. - Robert Joseph Heinlein, 92, died a peaceful death Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, surrounded by family in Bradenton.

He ended his life the same way he lived his life, in quiet dignity.

He was born Thursday, July 8 ,1920, in Warren, the son of Joseph and Nettie Kibler Heinlein. RJ was a graduate of Warren Harding High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired from Van Huffel Tube in 1980, where he had worked for 40 years.

Preceding Mr. Heinlein's death were his parents; his beloved wife, Jean Spier Heinlein, whom he married Jan. 26, 1946, and who died Oct. 20, 1997; and his three siblings, Ruth Hertfelder, Henry Heinlein and Ethel Hinton Summers.

He is survived by his sons, Gil Heinlein of Ft. Lauderdale and Doug (Barb) Heinlein of Houston, Texas; and daughter, Penny (Paul) Chapin of Bradenton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is to be held 2 p.m. Sept. 1, 2012, at Christ Episcopal Chapel, Bradenton.

He requested any material donations be made to the Leukemia Society, 600 301 Blvd., W. Bradenton, FL 34205, in loving memory of his wife, Jean Spier Heinlein.
