Ohio University campus in Athens, Ohio is never deserted, even in the heat of summer. The beautiful red brick buildings and brick foot paths were not only filled with summer and foreign exchange students from June 28-30, but also 90 young journalists who were eager to learn.
Ohio University held its annual Scripps Journalism Workshop, this year inviting students to learn about media as a whole as opposed to just print. High school juniors and seniors were offered courses such as "writing for video", "broadcast producing" and "telling stories on the web", as well as more common journalistic classes including "writing for print," and "interview techniques."
The workshop was designed to get students to think about the future of journalism, especially multimedia projects. Students were split into groups of two or three and produced written and video stories on events that were actually happening on campus, giving them some real life experience.
Students attending the workshop represented a variety of places, coming from 12 states including Oregon, Florida, and Alabama. Locally, several students from Warren, Youngstown, and Austintown also participated in the workshop.
