WARREN - Julietta ''Judy'' Bates Vardzel passed away on Aug. 3, 2012, with her family by her side.
A beloved wife and mother, talented homemaker, loyal friend and all-around cool lady, Judy was born on the family farm in Hartford on Oct. 2, 1928, the youngest of three daughters of Samuel Stephen and Cleo Vida Bates. She graduated from Hartford High School in 1946 and was a lifelong area resident.
Judy loved to travel. Especially memorable were visits with close friends in Mexico City and road trips in the western United States.

She took great pleasure in chatting with friends and strangers alike, and in spending time with her little canine buddies, Lark and Lexi. She also enjoyed long walks, bingo, antique hunting, Western movies, NASCAR racing, reading and crossword puzzles.
Judy will be dearly missed by her husband of 51 years, William E. ''Bill'' Vardzel, whom she married on July 9, 1961.
She is also survived by her children, Gary Deichler of Las Vegas, Nev., Bob (Mary) Deichler of Flemington, N. J., Dennis Deichler of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Cindy (Alan Tomsic) Vardzel of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Ada Koury of Rockville, Md.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Flora Hoppes of Becker, Minn.
In honoring Judy's wishes, no public memorial service will be held.
The family says that Judy had a kind and generous spirit, and she endeared herself to many people throughout her life. She faced hardships and challenges with strength, dignity and humility. Family and friends who were blessed to have her in their lives will love and miss Judy always.
