‘Run the Plank’ for Hope Lodge

5K RUN TO HELP HOPE LODGE: Erin Pavick, a senior at Maplewood High School, has organized a 5K run and one-mile fun run ''Run the Plank'' for her Girl Scouts Gold Award. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 80362 of Mecca.

Registration is 8 a.m. and the race 9 a.m. Saturday at the marina at Mosquito Lake Park, Bazetta. The proceeds from the race are be donated to the Cleveland Hope Lodge. The event will be held rain or shine.

The lodge provides a place for people receiving cancer treatment to stay for free and receive meals and lodging.

PRODUCE TO BE DISTRIBUTED: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 140 Cherry Ave., N.W., will distribute free produce at 9 a.m. today. Those who need food should bring bags.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO HOLD DEDICATION: Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County will hold the dedication at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Walsh-Dunmire home, 4 Maranatha Drive, Youngstown.

GAME DAY PLANNED: The Howland Branch Library, 9095 East Market St., will meet at 6 p.m. today for the ''Got Game?'' for fourth to 12th grades. There will be a variety of multi-player games.

BUDDY WALK TO MARK FIFTH YEAR: The fifth annual Buddy Walk of the Valley at the Shops at Boardman Park will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday DSAV Center for Success, 945 Boardman Canfield Road, Suite 12. Posters made by participants will be displayed at the event and also at DSAV Center for Success through National Down Syndrome month in October. Register or donate online at www.dsav.org.

CANNING PROGRAM TO BE HELD: A free ''Canning and Freezing Workshop - Learn How to Preserve Your Summer Harvest Safely'' will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 16 at the McKinley Memorial Library auditorium, Niles. The workshop focuses on the basics of home canning and preservation and is appropriate for people with all levels of experiences. The class will address basic food safety principles.
