Becca Calvin, a 2011 graduate of Lakeview High School, has joined the Youngstown State University volleyball program as a walk-on for the 2012 season.
Calvin, a three-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs who graduated in 2011, joined four other freshmen to report to volleyball camp on Tuesday. The Penguins will start practice today with the season opener against Eastern Kentucky 16 days away.
"Becca is a competitor with a passion for volleyball, and she will bring a great work ethic to the gym every day," YSU coach Mark Hardaway said. "She had a tremendous high school career, and she will add more depth and competition to our setting position. I am looking forward to working with Becca and having her as part of the Penguin program."
Calvin earned All-American Conference honors in both her junior and a senior seasons for the Bulldogs. As a senior, she posted 514 assists and 48 aces in leading the Bulldogs to a 22-1 record. Calvin helped Lakeview to an All-American Conference championship and a 22-0 record during the regular season her senior year.
