Margaret L. Smyth 1929-2012

CANTON, Ga. - Margaret Lois "Marge" Smyth, 82, formerly of Warren, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Kathy Cares Hospice in Cartersville, Ga.

She was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Morgantown, W.Va., the daughter of the late George Lester Bircher and the late Alice LaVerne DeWitt Bircher.

She worked as a secretary / bookkeeper for the treasurer's office for the Champion Schools, as well as the Trumbull County JVS and the Trumbull County Board of Education. Prior to moving to Ohio, Marge worked for Dougan, Bretz and Caldwell in Morgantown.

Margaret was an elder of Champion Christian Church, where she was a member of the choir, and was active in Ladies Aid & "Ruth" Circle of the Church. Marge was a former member of the Westover Methodist Church, where she was a soloist in the choir. Until moving to Georgia to be with family, she was an active member of the Zeta Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International.

She is survived by her sons, Edward L. (Lisa) Smyth of Reno, Nev., and Scott L. (Carol) Smyth of Canton, Ga.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings, Louise E. McCormick, Goldie Ruth L. Darocha, Alice L. St. Clair, Betty Lou Hershman and George L. Bircher, all of Morgantown, W.Va., John L. Bircher of Christiansburg, Va., and Robert L. Bircher of Mesa, Ariz.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lewis Smyth; and a brother, Donald L. Bircher.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at 1 p.m. Friday at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Kenneth Hopkins will officiate.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until service time.

Burial will be in the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, W.Va.
