Charles H. Spitler 1918-2012

MECCA - Charles Henry Spitler, 94, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren.

He was born on May 26, 1918, in Mecca, the son of the late Joseph Spitler and the late Myra Fox Spitler.

Charles was a lifetime resident of Mecca and served his county in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of Greene Church of the Nazarene and had worked at American Welding for 27 years, retiring on Nov. 30, 1977.

Charles was a lifetime member of the West Farmington VFW Post 7200, the Cortland Moose Lodge, SCOPE Inc. of Trumbull County, and the Lakeview Coon and Fox Hunters.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Black Spitler, whom he married on June 10, 1956; three sons, William (Dianne) Spitler of North Bloomfield, Kenneth (Lois Dooley) Spitler of Conneaut and Robert (Karen) Spitler of Bristolville; and by six daughters, Suzanne Cordwell of Orwell, Barb (Ed) Roth of North Bloomfield, Bonnie Utsinger of Folkston, Ga., Corlene Ziegler of Helendale, Calif., Sheila (Gary) Persino of Vienna and Roberta (Ronnie) Hall of Hilliard, Fla.

Also surviving are 34 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Spitler Jr. and James "Buzz" Spitler; a daughter, Charlotte Spitler Dye; two brothers, Roy Spitler and Norman Perry; two sisters, Elda Spitler and Leta Spitler Daniels; and by a grandson, Russell Dye.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greene Church of the Nazarene, where the family will again receive friends one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be in the West Mecca Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Independence Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Road, Building E, Canfield, OH 44406.
