FOP?brings the ‘Thunder’

THUNDER IN THE PARK SET IN McDONALD: The McDonald Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 194 will present ''Thunder in the Park'' from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Park.

Registration is 2 to 5 p.m., judging 5 to 7 p.m. and awards 7:30 p.m. Rain date is Sept. 9. Plaques will be presented to the top 50 cars, with special awards, including a Mayor's Award, Police Chief Award and FOP President Award. The event will include music with a DJ, 50-505 raffle, entertainment, clown and children's activities.

Pre-registration is $6 and $8 day of the show. Proceeds from the event will benefit McDonald FOP Lodge 194. For information, call Diz at 330-530-1717.

GROUNDBREAKING SET: The Jackson-Milton Library will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the library's building site, adjacent to Jackson-Milton High School, 13910 Mahoning Ave. Plans are for a new building. Rain date is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY NIGHT PLANNED AT BALLFIELD: The Trumbull County Historical Society Night will be held today at the Eastwood Field in Niles. Hald of each $8 box seat game ticket will go to the historical society and the Becky Smith Memorial Scholarship.

CAR CRUISE TO BATTLE HUNGER: Kool Time Kruisers will host a Midnight Car Cruise to Drive Out Hunger from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Pizza Hut in the Oakmont Plaza in Columbiana. Proceeds will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

The entry fee for cars is $5 or five nonperishable food item. Admission to the show is free, with spectators encouraged to bring nonperishable food items.

Special vehicles include Ohio State cars, an A-Team van, Bumblebee Transformer, The Bandit, Knight Rider and 2005 General Lee drifting movie car. For information, call 330-424-9503.

FUN DAY TO HELP MOM: A Family Fun Day will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ridge Ranch campgrounds, 5219 state Route 303, Newton Falls. The benefit will help Angie Monroe, 36, with her medical bills as she is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer.

The event includes a Chinese auction, 50-50 raffle, lunch and swimming. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 10, and children younger than 3 are free. Monetary donation you may sent to Team Angie, c/o Warren Revival Center, P.O. Box 305 Leavittsburg 44430

GM FOUNDATION MAKES DONATION: The GM Foundation, the joint leadership team of the Lordstown Complex, recently presented a $15,000 grant to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley's Success By 6 program. The support from the GM Foundation will help expand the Success By 6 program into Niles and LaBrae schools in Trumbull County.

Success by 6 was implemented as a learning experience to better prepare children for kindergarten. The program includes 60 hours of instruction and kindergarten readiness.
