Springer 65th

Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur ''Bill'' F. Springer of Cortland will be honored on their 65th anniversary at an open house celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the Lake Vista Clubhouse in Cortland. All friends and relatives are invited to share in their celebration. The family asks that attendees bring no gifts.

The Rev. Dittman united Wilbur Springer and the former Rhea Jean Wildon in marriage on June 8, 1947, at the Cortland United Methodist Church. Attending the couple was Thomas Mort and Betty Mort King.

After honeymooning in Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Springer settled in Cortland and raised their four children, Kathy (Sam) Penn, Lynda (Gerry) Kane, Darrel (Dona) Springer and Bill (Michele) Springer. They also have nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Springer graduated from Cortland High School and enlisted in the Merchant Marines. After returning from the service, he worked at Republic Steel in Warren and then as an agent and sales manager for Prudential Insurance company for 30 years.

Mrs. Springer also graduated from Cortland High School and worked at Wollam Insurance and Greenwood Insurance in Cortland and later at Greenwood Auto in Austintown.

The Springers lived in Cortland until retiring to a home in Lake Wales, Fla., where they lived for 14 years. They returned to Cortland in 2007 and currently reside at Lake Vista Community.
