Liberty responds
to motorcycle crash
LIBERTY - Township crews were called out late Thursday to a motorcycle accident at state Route 11 and Tibbetts Wick Road.
Liberty dispatch reported crews were at the accident scene about 10:55 p.m. and the driver of the motorcycle was being transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
More details on the accident or driver's condition were not available.
In the past month, there have been numerous motorcycle accidents in the area, some fatal.
Police: Gun found during traffic stop
YOUNGSTOWN - A South Side man is in the Mahoning County Jail on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon after police claim they found a gun in his car during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.
Officers working a Violence Interdiction Patrol pulled over a car driven by Michael Nizami, 4131 Glenwood Ave., about 4:15 p.m. at Boston Avenue and Market Street for a cracked windshield.
Police found a .45-caliber semiautomatic Glock pistol in his car.
A records check revealed Nizami had a permit to carry a concealed weapon but he let it expire in 2011.
He is expected to be arraigned today in Municipal Court.
Young Republicans
meet today in Niles
The Trumbull County Young Republicans group will meet 7 p.m. today at the county GOP headquarters inside the Eastwood Mall in Niles.
The speaker will be former state lawmaker Republican Randy Law, who is running for state representative in Ohio's 64th District. Law is running against state Rep. Tom Letson, D-Warren.
The GOP headquarters is located between Dillard's and the state License Bureau.

open Niles office
The Ohio Democratic Party officially opened its campaign office in Trumbull County Thursday.
The office, 337 Vienna Ave., suite 2, Niles, will be the center of operations for state party activity in the county. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
