LOWELL - One night after playing a 13-inning game that ended with a Lowell walk off hit, the Scrappers fell behind early and never recovered. They dropped their second straight game by a final of 10-1 to the Spinners. The Scrappers had runners in scoring position in both the first and second innings but were unable to get on the scoreboard. They knocked out Lowell's starter, Justin Haley with one out in the top of the second inning. Unfortunately for the Scrappers, William Cuevas entered. Cuevas went on to pitch 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He only allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 10. Ryan Merritt got the start for the Scrappers and took the loss to fall to 2-2 on the season. Merritt lasted 4 2/3 innings, and allowed six hits and five runs. Three of the runs were earned. Merritt did not record a walk or a strikeout. The Scrappers plated their lone run in the top of the eighth inning. Robel Garcia walked to lead off the inning, and then scored on Tyler Naquin's double over the head of the centerfielder, Williams Jerez. It was Naquin's fourth double of the season and his eighth RBI. The two teams play again, tonight at 7:05 p.m.
