ORCHID: To local Girl Scouts who were among those taking part in scouting 100th anniversary Rock the Mall celebration June 8 to 10 at the national mall in Washington, D.C. The event was a sing-a-long with a large gathering of Girl Scouts and friends at the Washington Monument on the National Mall to demonstrate the power of girl leadership.
ONION: It's officially summer and motorists with the loud cars are back with their windows down. It's annoying. Either roll up the windows or turn it down.
ORCHID: To employees with Time Warner Cable as they partnered with United Way to canvass northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania and devote about 2,000 hours in support of local communities during a company-wide Day of Action held Friday. Volunteers helped paint, restore, garden and clean.
ORCHID: To Korean War veterans who will be holding the Laying of the Roses service Sunday at South Wycliffe Circle at the KWV Memorial, 4075 Mahoning Ave. The memorial has the names of 1,289 service people killed in action.
ORCHID: To the Cortland Lions Club for the annual street fair that wraps up today on Main Street in Cortland.
ONION: To people who still don't recycle. We all know a few who still put recyclables into the regular trash. The number of people recycling is better, but not where it needs to be.
ORCHID: For the Champion community Fun Dog Show being held today in the parking lot of Champion Presbyterian Church along Mahoning Avenue. The event features dog-owner lookalike contest, best costume, most unusual mixed breed, cutest puppy and best trick.
