WARREN - Trumbull Community Action Program had a special week with the dedication of both a new learning center and a senior citizen center.

As part of their Community Action Day, ribbon-cuttings were held for both centers, with one honoring the memory of a longtime employee.

The Robin Elzy Learning Center on the second floor of TCAP building, 1230 Palmyra Road, has 20 computers, board games, books and other learning items for children and adults.

James Abicht, president / CEO of TCAP, said the learning center is in memory of Elzy, who worked 29 years with the agency, serving as vice president of planning. She started in 1977 and served until her death in 2006.

''She was dedicated to the youth of the community. She was dedicated to helping the senior citizens and was dedicated to the mission of this agency,'' he said.

Abicht said the room will be used for all ages.

Bree Elzy said her mother was a very humble person who would not have wanted all the attention, but she deserves this.

''We are all honored to be honoring her in this way,'' she said.

The room will be used for youth for after-school activities, senior computer classes and staff training.

Anthony Elzy said the building is special to him because it is where he met his wife. He said his wife was very dedicated to her job in helping others.

Jeanne Wall, vice president of education, said the senior center, on the first floor, offers a place seniors can come for socializing and enjoying playing cards, games, crafts and other activities.

''This is a program we wanted to provide as an additional service to senior citizens. This is just to supplement senior services in the county. We are not in competition with anyone,'' she said.

Senior Center Director Eleanor Popovic said she was overwhelmed when she saw the completed center.

''I just love this. Seniors can come here and relax and be with others and have fun,'' she said.
