YOUNGSTOWN - A jury moments ago returned verdicts of guilty against two teens in the shooting death of a former Chaney High School student.
Deandre M. McCreary, 16, of West Woodland Avenue, and Rayshawn Royal, 17, of Cohasset Drive, were convicted of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery with gun specifications.
They are each facing life in prison for the fatal shooting exactly one year ago Monday of 16-year-old Brandon Adkins.
Deliberations by the 12-member jury began Monday afternoon and continued early this morning, returning to the courtroom around 10:40 a.m. today with the verdict.
Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court presided.
Police found Adkins, of East Philadelphia Ave., lying in a driveway June 18, 2011. He had been shot in the back, abdomen and right forearm and surrounded by a large crowd. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
