MV rolls in opener

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers used a three-run sixth inning to break a tie and went on to an 8-5 victory over Jamestown Monday night in the season opener for both teams.

Juan Romero had two hits - both home runs - and drove in four runs for the Scrappers.

With Hunter Jones on third base and Erik Gonzalez on first with one out in the sixth, Romero homered to center field to give the Scrappers a 7-4 lead.

He added a solo homer to left in the eighth for an 8-4 advantage.

The Scrappers conclude the two-game series at Jamestown tonight at 7:05 and then come home to begin a two-game series against the Jammers Wednesday night at 7:05.
