DEAR EDITOR:
I am a conservative and a Republican. Recently, Vice President Biden visited our Valley May 16 and held a campaign rally at M7 Technologies. What our vice president had to say leaves me with a feeling of disbelief.
He paints a wonderful picture about all the jobs that, allegedly, are on the way. He was very short on information about where these jobs will come from. He did not allow for a Q&A at the end so that he could be questioned about his remarks.
As politics goes, if he had something to brag about he would have been loud and clear with facts. Politicians don't miss that kind of opportunity. Politics is perception and he wants us to perceive that what he is saying has a factual basis.
In nearly every part of his speech he talked about government subsidies. We should not have to be reminded that when they say government subsidies, it really means taxpayer subsidies. We give them the money. How can we continue to do that without people working and paying taxes? We can't. The government spends more than we pay in. That is why we have a $15 trillion debt in this country.
Biden says if we work hard we can be rich and do whatever we want. Then he says the rich should pay more taxes and that the rich are a problem. Being rich can really be a pain under this administration. Like it or not, the rich are job creators.
Biden says there are trillions of dollars sitting on the sidelines waiting to be spent. That is whatever is left after the administration gets done taxing it. He talked about creating good-paying jobs in the renewable energy sector using taxpayer subsidies. If renewable energy was a great thing to do, the investors with those trillions of dollars would be investing in renewable energy. They are not, but the government is. The Solyndra debacle is a reminder of how good the government is at investing.
This administration needs to stop interfering with business. The economy will blossom when the investors with the trillions of dollars start to spend and grow jobs.
The government wants us to be dependent on them until all distinction between us is gone. If you work hard you deserve a better lifestyle than the person who sits on the couch and draws from a welfare system you pay for. Don't let this administration make you believe you can't have more than the next person. You can and you deserve it.
Thomas Jefferson said, "...the Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."
