In the Seeing Eye column of the May 21 Tribune, Animal Welfare League requested donations of Purina Puppy Chow. The article stated that donations could be taken to the Menagerie Thrift Store in Howland.
I purchased a large bag of the puppy chow and took it to the store. The volunteers behind the counter looked at me as if I were crazy and told me to take the food to the rear of the complex.
A woman was unloading items from her car and she said she was told they didn't want anything up front, and she did not know what to do with her donations. Not knowing what else to do with the dog food, my husband just left it on the pile of things outside.
There were many cars in the parking lot, but not a soul around to help. No receipt for the donation, no thank you, nothing - which is exactly what they will receive from me in the future.
