DEAR EDITOR:
For the last year or so I have been writing letters to the editor urging America to turn back to God and to praise and honor Him for all the ways He has blessed us and been there for us throughout our history.
Perhaps I was wrong. Maybe we should turn our backs on Him. We haven't heard from Him in some time and it's so much easier to "just have fun." Why worry ourselves about millions of lives aborted, greed in epidemic proportions, rampant pornography and alternate lifestyles in direct contrast to God's natural laws when we can "just have fun."
And how about those silly believers of His that actually think we should keep the Sabbath holy when we can shop almost anywhere, buy lottery tickets, and do almost anything but go to church on Sunday, not to mention the fact that nowadays many employers offer or demand that we show up at work so we can make more money to "have fun."
We have enough idols to worship, too. Who needs God? I bet a lot of people can think of at least 10 things or people they would rather idolize than God. So why stress about it? Let's "just have fun."
While we're at it, I also think the government needs to establish a new department, let's call it the Department of Personal Appearance to help the less fortunate afford facelifts, tummy tucks or other procedures to make them look better while they're "having fun."
In order to further enhance our fun, let's do away with all those law enforcement people. After all, who needs the men and women in blue around when we're looting, raping and pillaging. They would certainly spoil our fun.
When we have finally eliminated God from our cities, our schools, our government, our nation, our families and our lives, then we can really "have fun."
There are a few drawbacks that I should mention that go along with all this fun we're going to have.
First of all, there's that book out there, the one by God, that tells us the kind of fun I've talked about is totally wrong in His eyes and incredibly, won't make us happy. It's also troubling that the book has never been wrong.
Then there's the question of His Son, Jesus. He's in the book too. Died at the age of 33 trying to save the world. Doesn't sound like He had too much fun, but He certainly brought peace and a reborn spirit to a lot of people's lives.
However, if you can overlook the Book, God, and His Son, and you are happy with the direction in which America is heading, get out there and "have fun."
